John Copley’s Traeger is a Hero | Traeger Wood Fired Grills

by Traeger Grills on

Traeger vs. Tree, the epic details of a Traeger grill braving the storm.

On November 17th, 2015 wild windstorms raged through Spokane, Washington. People watched in awe as huge, old trees toppled, garbage cans flew down the street, schools closed, and power blacked out. John Copley and his family were amazed at the mayhem.

As they stood near the windows (but not too close, for safety reasons) in astonishment, John spied a wavering tree headed for his home. When what to his wondering eyes should appear, his trusty, heroic Traeger Lil’ Tex grill threw itself into the path of the falling tree and took the blow that could have blasted through the Copley’s roof.

Thank goodness that the ever-loyal Traeger leapt before the tree and softened the hit to the family home. Copley said, “The contractor that will repair our house saw it and said he truly thought it saved our house from more damage.” The little-grill-that-could sacrificed its life and saved the home from epic damage. It looks like Traeger’s are built to last—hail, wind, sleet, or snow! Those legs bent but held strong and didn’t collapse. This brawny meat machine can handle the biggest roast beef that you can find with those mighty strong stems.

We send our heartfelt thoughts to the Northwesterners that were affected by this serious storm, we hope that things are back up and running, and families are united through this terrible weather. A heaping helping of thanks to those who volunteered and worked to restore power and clear roads.

John posted, “We are very sad but ready to move on with our new Traeger at some point. How can you live without one?" That’s right John, how can one live without the flavor that fills their life with healthy and delicious food. The Copley’s had to cook their turkey in the oven due to the unexpected Traeger tragedy, so we are going to fix him up with a new Traeger Lil' Tex Pro Grill to replace his fallen BBQ hero. Thank you for sharing your amazing Traeger vs. tree pictures with us. Keep the Traegercue flowing.

If you know of a good Traeger citizen, nominate them to be our Traeger Hero. We’re looking for good people who perform good deeds, and fire up delicious Traegercue. So keep a sharp eye, and let us know who you think should be our next Traeger Hero of the Month. Send nominations to
