We spent all day every day immersed in BBQ for National BBQ Month
BBQ FEEDS THE SOUL
National BBQ Month swept the nation in May and so did Traeger. This month, we honored our BBQ Queen, Diva Q, by giving Traeger Nation a dash of her sweet and spicy BBQ knowledge. We wrapped it up into a video for the books where we learned about her experience in the industry as a female, scored some brisket tips, and were moved by her soulful passion for BBQ. It wouldn’t be BBQ month without people like Danielle and we were stoked to be able to give people a look behind the lid at what fuels her wood-fired passion.
Tip from the Pro: Diva’s Brisket Bark Secret -
The whole focus in making great brisket is developing beautiful bark. Using butcher paper to wrap the brisket is key. The paper helps retain more bark because it breathes a lot more than foil does, while keeping the inside of the brisket moist.
A PITMASTER’S PLAYGROUND
There’s no better way to celebrate National BBQ Month than to visit a city that bleeds BBQ -- so that’s exactly what we did. Our team traveled to Memphis, TN for “Memphis In May” to deliver some smokin’ eats to the crowds. Over 200 other BBQ teams flocked to the event to compete and share their food with over 50,000 hungry attendees. Pitmasters Chad Ward and Curtis Nations were there to make people wood-fired believers…and that they did. The team served up over 3,000 samples over the course of the three-day event. Attendees were taken on a BBQ protein tour feasting on tri-tip, pork shoulder, and brisket. Big Bob Gibson’s BBQ team competed and added a fifth Memphis in May World Championship to their belt. The team will be back next year to compete and we fully expect them to grill the competition.
EVERYTHING’S BIGGER IN TEXAS
Next stop on our BBQ road trip: Austin, TX for the annual Hot Luck Festival. This time, we added some culinary to the mix and brought along our Chef Ambassadors from all over the nation. Chef Isaac Toups, Chef Timothy Hollingsworth, Chef Sara Kramer, Chef Ivan Orkin, and Chef Peter Cho made up our all-star cast at the Traeger booth. There was no rest for the weary that week. The chefs worked tirelessly to turn out culinary masterpieces such as Smoked Chicken Heart Confit and Soondae Blood Sausages; all elevated with wood-fired flavor. Actor Jon Favreau even followed our smoke trail and made it to the booth to hang out with the team. Food was devoured, friendships were made, and games were played. Most importantly the event and the amazing food brought people together from all over the world to create memorable experiences. National BBQ Month was one for the record filled with flavor we’re going to savor for a long time.
