The Chicken Sold Me!

5 Stars
By Eric Fehrenbach (Marshfield, Wisconsin)
Owner Since October/2007

My friend Jaye Franklin got me going. He had some chicken that was several hours old and his griill was on smoke to keep it warm and I thought no way, then I tried one. SOLD, He delivered my grill the next day. Likes to Cook : Where do I start; Baby back ribs, My wife hated to eat them until she tried mine from the Traeger, My kids love when I cook bacon on it and the chicken and prime rib is to die for. Also, the smoked Salmon, I have had people that said they didn't like smoked salmon until they tried mine. I have had to tell people to stop bringing me stuff to cook so I keep submitting their name in the refer a friend program. So maybe I will win a bigger grill!!!

Great For Large Families

By Rick Gaylard (Charleston,, South Carolina)
Owner Since January/2006

We have a lot of fairly large family gatherings at my place and cooking burgers and dogs just got to be ho-hum. I got interested in barbecuing and investigated several different types of cookers. My research led to me to conclude that I did not want to babysit a wood fire hour after long hour. The pellet grills / smokers seemd to be a good fit for me. And my investigation concluded that Traeger was the pellet grill to go with. Now that I have it, and have thoroughly enjoyed it for two years, I can now say I'm a genius for my research and final purchase.

This is the best grill out there period Ive never cooked on any(Gas or Charcoal) grill that gave me the results that a Traeger Grill gives...I made my first prime rib on it and fed about 15 people and they were amazed at the flavor ..I used Traegers prime rib rub and cooked it for about 5 1/2 hours and it was unreal...I will NEVER use anything else but my Traeger

Our 1st Traeger experience was @ a wedding last May. They fed us exceptional food all weekend. So for fathers day I bought my husband his, being a good wife and all. We have 3 boys so we needed a big one. Well lets just say there isn't many things . . . I haven't cooked on it. Yes, I grill more than he does now. EVERYTHING tastes better.

Work for a fireplace store that wanted something to sell in the slow months. we started carrying Traegers about 2 years ago. best move we ever made. we have the Pink Pig that we cook on at the store. took it home for a family get together and was sold. the thing that really sold me on it was the burgers. i know, something as simple as a burger. no shrinkage, and full of flavor. my favorite is jalapeno burgers. u can cook a whole meal on these grills. veggies, taters, pizza, and even cookies.

my journey to TRAEGER

Once I decided to get a true smoker the hunt was on. I checked with ALL the local big box stores and found with barrel style smokers , when you closed the lid and bent over to look at the seal, you could see thru the entire grill. So I thought electic box was the way to go, just could not get sold on creating smoke without charcoal or at least fire, just something wrong with electric smoke, also heard problems creating smoke. Now terribly frustrated thinking this can't be all there is to choose from, I remembered an article in my geekish favorite magazine CONSUMERS REPORT on grills. So I dug feaverishly thru stacks until I found it only to be dissappointed, the article was on gas grills, but, as I glanced thru the article I saw a picture of a smoker. the traeger lil' tex, then the hunt was on. With the automation of this grill it was a no brainer. No charcoal, no soaked chips, minimal cleaning, o.k. I'm sold. The only decision was which one, I chose the TEXAS. Cooked entire dinner on it first night I had it, that was last night. Tomorrow is my first briskett. Looking forward to it.

Held a party for my nephews graduation and borrowed 3 of the 5 treagers in the picture. The party was a big hit thanks to the great taste of everything cooked on the best grill going. I currently own one for my house and one for my camper, looking to add one down at the hanger for our employees. Keep up the great work.

Looked high and low online and in the big-box stores for a grill capable of being mounted on a trailer and towed to big events for vending. Happened upon the Traeger at a local High-End BBQ store here on Colorado Avenue. Before seing this unit, I have never seen nor heard of a pellet BBQ. Let me tell ya, after the store had a smaller version of this one fired up and cooking chicken wings on a wing-rack. OMG!, when he went to pull a wing off of the grill it just burst with juices when he grabbed it with the tongs. I knew right then I had to have this grill. The wings were phenomenal but the fact that the juices were sealed in and the Traeger was virtually maintenance free (especially compared to my other Propane grill and other Charcoal grill. Now, my plan is to mount several of these bad-boys to my trailer, buy a small generator to match, and blow everyone's mind at the community events.

Was seeking high and low for a grill for vending at major outdoor events here in Colorado Springs. Happened upon Traeger's at a local high-end BBQ retailer who was grilling chicken wings on a wing-rack outside of his storefront. Not only did the smell of the pellets burning demand attention, seeing how the juices squirted from the wings as he grabbed them to pull them from the grill was mouthwatering to say the least. After getting thoroughly educated on propane grills, charcoal grills, and wood burning grills, they all fell short of this Traeger in cost, maintenance, and outright performance. The set it and forget it really sealed the deal. Absolutely love my Traeger Texas Grill.

My first experience with a pellet BBQ was at a fun cook off at a pellet manufacturing company picnic that my daughter worked for. Came in first with a pork shoulder hock on, since then it has been whole pigs (65 lbs dressed) ,ribs, smoked salmon and if you have not tried it yet, Bruce's brisket, along with the normal steaks, hamburgers, pastrami, chicken, turkey and whatever comes to mind at the time, as if anything done on it is normal

Turning out the tri-tips

By ROBERT BRANDT (Pittsburg, California)

For a family reunion I decided to cook whole tri-tips. With the model 075 cooking surface I was able to get 8 large tips on it with space about 1" in between. They were only lightly seasoned. I would smoke them for about 3 hours and then finish it off on medium. When done they were somewhere between medium and medium rare. This way the folks that liked their tip more done would get the outer cuttings and the rest that liked it medium would get the rest. It was such a hit that several relatives went to the store, bought tri-tips and had me cook them so they could take them home. My traeger ran non stop for almost 36 hours and it produced the tri tips that were the hit of the reunion. I have a relative within driving distance come down twice since then and requests that I do tri-tips on the Traeger. My other grills (3) coudn't even come close to doing what the Traeger can so easily do. The next reunion will be here due to the Traeger. Hands down awesome.

My wife says buying mine was the best money I ever spent. I am from KC, big BBQ town. Denver is not. I had to learn to make my own. My BBQ 075 made it simple. The temps are reliable. All I had to do is figure out the times and get an eye for when things were done. I used to worry things would turn out OK when I was cooking for guests. I don't anymore. I know it will be good. Eight people have Traegers because they ate something I made on mine and heard me talk of my complete satisfaction with mine. All of them wish they had gotten them sooner. If you are waiting, don't. I have not had a single problem with mine. It just works. Reliable in all ways. Mine looks old and rough but it is Old Reliable.

I cook on my 075 at least 4 times a week. I live in NE and use it all year around. I have found that one ( even if you don't know anything about grilling) can rely on the Traeger to never deny you a GREAT grilling experience. I have owned several other grills and have found NOTHING that compares to my Traeger!! This grill is the ultimate in outdoor grilling. The wood flavor gives you the true meaning of barbecue!!

Our old BBQ was tired and in desparate need of replacement. So I had been looking around for a new BBQ. I did all the research.............on the traditional Gas-BBQ's. I had almost decided on which one. Then my husband came home one day with the Big 075 Traeger Grill. I was a little sceptical. And since I was the one who does most of the BBQing, I was a bit scared of the cooking style. The traeger takes some getting used to. Cooking is more like an oven. The cooking style is more laid back. NO worry of flair up. No charred ruined meat. But more time to mingle with guest. My husband was tipped off by a trusted friend. And I am glad he was. I probably wouldn't have changed my ways. I recommend the traeger to all my friends. I AM A CHANGED WOMAN!

The only thing I'm upset about, is, that I didn't find out LONG AGO about this Grill/Smoker! As a lot of people, I was confused about "DOING THE RIGHT PURCHASE",didn't want to spend a bunch of money and be sorry about it. WELL, I can tell EVERYONE this Grill is better than, not sex, but just about anything I've ever bought! I only used it today, (Bought it last week, 12,2009, after figuring out the proper procedures, and it's well worth the time. I put a Pork shoulder on it and came back 4hrs later, my wife ,son, and myself Pigged out. I was an instant "CHEF" ! I used Maple Pellets, and my success was fantastic! Truly this is the best BBQ I've had, tender ,Juicy and FULL of flavor! The unit worked flawlessly, For me, I made the best choice, and recommend this Traeger to EVERYONE !

My best friends told me they bought Traeger Grills and gave their gas grills away, and knowing the both of them being brothers, I knew this had to be something special. I ran across some Traeger grills in Grand Junction, Colo. and decided I needed to try these out. I bought a Texas grill and then the 2 smaller grills as well. I have cooked New York steaks, Fillet Mignon, Pork Fillets and Pork Strip steaks and am able to cut them with a fork with an amazing amount of juice retained inside and able to cooked to to desired wellness with ease and no worry of flame up to burn the meat.

My wife and I purchased a Traeger Junior in December 2009. People loved the ribs so much, that in February we decided to purchase the Texas model. My son and son-in-law received ribs for their birthdays. Both said they were the best ribs that they have ever had. Son lives in Kansas City, son-in-law lives in St Louis. Enough said. Have used the smoker every weekend, for ribs, pulled pork, pizza, calico beans, homemade mac and cheese, and salmon. Rib-fest 2010 at the Van Wyks is coming next weekend, invited family and friends to partake in assorted smoke meats and sides. Can't wait, the Treager Texas is wonderful.

I have been smoking meats for over 20 years on everything from Little Chief's, charcoals bullets, LP vertical water smokers to stick burners. I was launching a new BBQ website http://www.SmokingPit.com that was going to be a step by step how to, smoking recipe site and wanted to start off with a new pit. I decided on the Traeger Texas. The first week I used my Texas elite, I was blown away by the steady temperature and quality of the end product. This thing cooks he best bacon and pork butts! My wife is hooked on the bacon. She says she has never had bacon taste so good. Now I'm considering either the 150 XL as a new addition or another Traeger Texas elite. After all, the only thing better then a Traeger is two traegers right?

Our Texas Traeger Pellet Grill has been with us since we lived out on the farm. The farm was a fantastic piece of property that our family and friends came and enjoyed, along with our Traeger Grill. We had a huge covered patio going into a 1 acre pond. we would enjoy cooking for everyone when they came and boy did they come (sometimes as many as 200 people). The farm got to be too much work, so we ended up selling it and moving back into the city. We miss the farm, but we brought our Traeger with us, and all of our family and friends followed. I would hate to think what it would be like today if we didn't have our Traeger Grill!

I have been a BBQ / Smoker / backyard grill master for about 10 years or so. I love the entire process of BBQing. The shopping for the food and all the ingredients. The prep of all the foods the getting up before everybody in my neighborhood. The smell of smoke filling the air as I make the coffee. The one thing I did not like was the constant attention I had to pay to the smoke, fire and the constant watching the temperature gage. Now with my new Traeger Texas that is all in the past! With my digital thermostat, I fill the hopper, set the desired temp and let the smoker do its job. Today I wanted to smoke a Beef Brisket. The cook time was 10 hours. I had work to do (I work from home) and my daughter softball game to go to. After the prep last night, I fired up the Traeger at 8:30 in the morning and the smoke started and I set the meat on the grate. At 1:30 I wrapped the brisket in heavy foil and closed the lid. At 3:00 I went to the softball game and came home at 6:00. I set the table and at 6:30 remove the meat from the grill. After letting the meat rest for 10 minutes I sliced the perfectly smoked meal. The smoke rings were a 1/2" deep. (brings a tear to my eye.) My wife never had brisket, I avoid it do to cook time, and loved it! I owe it all to my new love the Traeger Texas! I will be smoking baby back ribs this weekend and I look forward to a great summer of smoking by the pool and GREAT, PERFECT FOOD. Thanks Mr. Traeger! Yours Truly, FotoMike

I absolutely loave this grill. It has to be the best purchase I have ever made for a grill. I even gave my new Gas Grill away because I hated it because of the flareups. The Traeger does none of this. I have not had it very long but I would not have another grill. No bad taste because of the charcoal has to be one of the best things. The ease of cooking is just awesome. I fought with myself on which one to buy and finally decide to go with the bigger because I have found that you cannot go too big as far a a grill goes. Thank You Traeger and to Latoz in Westville, IL for selling them and making people aware of such a wnoderful grill.I am trying to get the people I work with purchase one.

Needed to cook good BBQ. Didn't have the time to watch a smoker and keep temps where they should be. Researched smokers for a long while only to find that they're all the same except for the convenience factor. Now I smoke when I go to sleep and can pay special attention to the food, not the smoker. Cooked my first BBQ with 20 pounds of pulled pork shoulders and perfected my BBQ sauce from different ideas on the net. You can't get better than doing it yourself. You can't do it easier than on the Traeger. Slow-smoked chicken wings. Can't get better or easier than on a Traeger. This weekend trying slow-cooked chicken thighs. Working up to the KING - brisket.

I bought a Meco Charcoal grill while serving in the Navy (Retired) and took up grilling and even cooked a couple Turkeys. I moved back to PA in 1994 bought a Weber Silver Charcoal grill and cooked/smoked on it for 10 years. Then I wanted to Smoke more so I got a small Brinkman Smoker, then a Weber Gas Grill for the wife to cook fast on week nights. Then I got a Weber Performer so I could grill/smoke even More food. My Boss then introduced me to the Traeger "Lil Tex" so I got one last year. I "Fell in Love" with the Taste of the food produced from this grill and the fact that you can smoke Ribs in the morning, finish them up, cook Chicken and then throw on some Steaks, Burgers, Hot Dogs and Everything just comes out PERFECT. And do not even get me started about Brisket and Pork Butts...AMAZING...I just set up my NEW Traeger "Texas" Grill last week and with the 8 slab Rib Rack, I have TONS of room for all the food I want to smoke/grill. It is the PERFECT back yark grill in my Opinion.

I did several years of research before purchasing my BBQ75 in March 08. I looked hard at the smokers that used wood with the offset, Cookshack [actually owned one a sold it]. I have enjoyed smoking meats for years on my Weber kettle smoker and still do from time to time but hands down the Traeger makes all my years of learning into products that my friends and family wait for an invitation to come over and see what is on the Traeger. I do, ribs, brisket, drunken chicken, bacon, pizza, Banana Bread, biskets, cheesy potatoes, great grilled veggies. Take a whole onion, peel, sprinkle a little olvie oil and salt on it, double wrap in foil and in less than a hour you have a great side dish with any meat. I have done 50# of pork loins and 35# of brisket placing them on at 11pm and they smoke all night. My son has recently purchased a Traeger and he is now enjoying the benefits of the Traeger.

I was introduced to Traeger as the Scout Master for the local Boy Scout troop. The local Traeger distributor loaned us his biggest grill the 075 and enough pellets to run it for our yearly Troop fund raiser, roasting corn at the Benet Spring Hill Billy days over fathers day weekend every year. We would go through between 30 to 60 bushels of corn depending on the weather each year. After I returned from Iraq in 2004, I went to the dealer and bought the grill he had been loaning us for all those years. I have since added the cold smoker to my 075 and I smoke cheeses and vacuum seal them for Christmas gifts. I also keep getting complaints that when I smoke Turkey for Thanksgiving that there is never enough to go around. So now I smoke 3, 20 pound birds whenever I smoke Turkey that way I get more turkey for the same amount of pellets. I get fewer complaints now.

Comments I'd been hearing about the Traeger and my love of BBQ'ing drove me to do quite a bit of research. I wanted to get away from the old gas grill, and a trip to Burns Feed on Orient Rd just outside Gresham sold me on the Traeger. In five days of ownership, I haven't missed a day BBQ'ing (pork tenderloin, salmon, babyback ribs & pineapple, and steak). The only thing better than the taste of the food is smelling it cooking!!!

My son and I entered our first BBQ Contest at Emporia Kansas and placed 17th out of 35 Teams. We placed 7th in Ribs, 10th Cooks Choice and 5th in Beef. We have 2 BBQ 075's and they are great. We won't cook on anything else but Traeger's.

I have been grilling/smoking for over 30 years. I used a smoker that required real charcoal for the smoking process. This process required constant attention to control the temperature and coal consumption. Constantly adjusting the damper or coals, it made sittin' by the fire a near all day project. When I saw a demo of a Traeger at an outdoor accessories store I was sold! No more having to tend the fire, no more too hot or to cool temps. No more hunting down and draging bags of charcoals home and hopeing there was enough to last through the cooking cycle. With the Traeg. there is constant control and great cooking! I enjoy getting the newsletter and the articles therein. Thanks for a great product that will last me my lifetime and be passed down to the family. Pete

I have owned a total of 8 grills/smokers I like the Traeger the best. It's truly a "set it and forget it" unit. You can cook low and slow for hours,or grill up some steaks in just a few minutes. You really can't beat the Traeger. Favorite Type of Pellet : Apple

A friend bought one a few years ago and was hooked. I received my grill as a gift from a friend that was moving that didn't have room for the Traeger at his new place so since I actually cooked on his more than he ever did, he left it for me to us in exchange for a lifetime supply of my homemade dry rub! I have cooked for thousands of people on my Traeger and proudly wear my ambassador apron when feeding masses. 8 pork butts will fit on the grill and will feed over 150 people! Everyone but my neighbors love my Traeger as the neighbors have to smell my smoke and they know I am cooking something great. The picture is my son and I with hockey sticks as I was cooking pulled pork for a hockey team dinner. I love to cook pretty much everything but especially pork butts, ribs and buffalo wings.

We are a BBQ Family that was sick and tired of purchasing a new gas grill every two years, regardless of the model and price we paid. I can tell you tons of stories about grills we bought that were Guaranteed for Life...went through two of them. We use our grills almost daily! Gas has never been our favorite, but we could not help but love the convience. Weekends were made for the Weber and we still love using it: not to mention the fact that they last forever. The problem with the weber was the mess and limited time you could get out of it slow cooking (adding charcoal is a pain). Well, we took the plunge with a Traeger after much research. We went with the 075 because of the size and we are thrilled that we did. The Traeger is clearly the best of both world when it comes to gas and coal. It starts up as fast as a Gas BBQ, but cooks with the outdoor flavor that the weber gives (without adding wet wood chips). We truly love it! In the two weeks that we have owned it, we have cooked: Beer Can Chicken Steaks Grilled Vegtables Pork Loin Beef Ribs Chicken Wings Kalbe Ribs Pork Short Ribs Shrimp The Traeger has done them all with perfection. Everything comes out moist, tender, and with a wonderful wood flavor (we have used Apple, Hickory, and Cherry). We were worried about the fact that we like rare steak and the Traegers ability to Sear, but the results were good. We still have a lot to learn about the finer details of using the Traeger, but experimenting is half the fun. Regardless, everything comes out great!!! We ae so happy with our decision to purchase the Trager and wish everyone Happy BBQing!
