The Tailgater is serious fun, wood-fired business. It's perfectly portable, and fires up full-fledged flavor on the fly. Get ready to grill everywhere.

The Process

  • Convection Process

An induction fan circulates rich, hardwood smoke throughout the cook chamber for even heat and epic flavor distribution.

  • Hopper

Load the hopper to the brim with 100% Hardwood for hours of smoking and grilling without reloading.

  • Auger

It fuels the fire, moving Hardwood from Hopper to Fire Pot—briskly for hot and fast, or gradually for low and slow cooking.

  • Firepot

A hot rod at the bottom of the Fire Pot ignites the Hardwood, keeping the fire going so you can relax and drink a cold one.

  • Energy Economy

Powered by a standard, household outlet, it uses 300 watts for the first four minutes and only 50 watts for the rest of the cook.

  • Shut Down Cycle

This sweet setting keeps the induction fan running for 10 minutes to lift residual ash from the fire pot and shuts off automatically.

Perfect Fit
I purchased my Tailgater from Home Depot about two months ago and wow! I've been amazed by all items I've cooked thus far and can't believe how much meat can fit on the Tailgater. I've cooked a 14lb Costco USDA brisket with no issue! I couldn't believe it fit. Folding legs are a great addition too. I packed it in my truck bed for Christmas to haul to my families house across state. So easy to fold the legs and take on the go. Such a great addition! The Tailgater really packs a punch. You can't go wrong for the size and you will not be let down.

Small package with a big punch
I have owned the Texas grill for a year and a half now and my girlfriend just bought me the Tailgater for Christmas. I love having the folding legs on a smaller and more portable unit. This will go perfectly in the RV and our tailgating trips to the game. I cannot wait to cook our tri tips while at Glamis for New Years! Now I can cook multiple items and use different pellets in my two grills. Happy Man here!!

Excellent Investment!!!
I went to Costco to purchase a simple charcoal BBQ to use at the cottage. I have a quality propane unit at home, but it's too heavy to lug around. Costco was completely sold out of BBQ's...except for these Traeger products that I'd never heard of. The salesperson was excellent, thoroughly explaining the benefits of pellet based grills, patiently answering my questions, etc. I purchased the bronze Tailgater and was blown away by how easy it was to use and how good the food tasted. I smoked some back ribs, sausages, chicken breasts and burgers for a group of 20 people. Rave reviews from everyone. Thank you Costco for being out of inventory :). Best BBQ I've ever purchased.

Q. Does the Tailgater have a hopper cleanout so I can change pellets?
San Ramon, California
A. This particular grill does not have a hopper clean out. To remove pellets from the hopper, use a cup or bowl until you reach the auger and then fill the hopper with desired flavor.

Boise, Idaho
A. That measurement includes the hopper. The body itself is 20 inches wide.

Q. What size wattage of portable generator is needed to run the 120vac traeger? I have a lil tex and would love to use it at our college gameday tailgates. Please advise. Thanks.
San Jose, California
A. We recommend a 1000-watt generator. You can also run our grills on a 400 watt inverter.

Q. This tailgater is really awesome but need in more portable design , it is possible to see in portable?
A. The Tailgater is an awesome grill, we do offer a tailgater kit that removes the legs and makes it possible to set the grill on the back of a tailgate, or a table. Another option is another grill we have called the "PTG". It is a smaller grill that is very portable. I recommend giving that a try.
