SET IT AND FORGET IT

Traeger grills take the labor-intensive element out achieving delicious wood-fired taste. Just set it and forget it, and let the Traeger do the rest.

The Process

  • Convection Process

An induction fan circulates rich, hardwood smoke throughout the cook chamber for even heat and epic flavor distribution.

  • Hopper

Load the hopper to the brim with 100% Hardwood for hours of smoking and grilling without reloading.

  • Auger

It fuels the fire, moving Hardwood from Hopper to Fire Pot—briskly for hot and fast, or gradually for low and slow cooking.

  • Firepot

A hot rod at the bottom of the Fire Pot ignites the Hardwood, keeping the fire going so you can relax and drink a cold one.

  • Energy Economy

Powered by a standard, household outlet, it uses 300 watts for the first four minutes and only 50 watts for the rest of the cook.

  • Shut Down Cycle

This sweet setting keeps the induction fan running for 10 minutes to lift residual ash from the fire pot and shuts off automatically.

Hi altitude questions
We used our new Tailgater for the first time a couple of weeks ago, camping at 10K ft. altitude in the Colorado Rockies. Tried a couple of the Traeger recipies, but found that we had to roughly double the cooking times to get the meat done. I also tried increasing the specified temp setting by 50 degrees or so.
Is this normal for high altitude cooking?
The grill is very easy to use, but I wish more attention had been paid to cleaning it out afterword. It would be much more convenient if there were a hinged bottom door to dump out ash and drippings. The dripping pan didn't catch everything from roasting our pork butt. On a campout, it's inconvenient to have to use a canister vacuum to clean the ash.
Other than that, the build quality is very good. Just needs a little design tweaking for easier cleanup.

All I'll Ever Own
This is my second Traeger of the same size. I take it everywhere and use it for everything from briskets to butts, from chickens to ducks. If you can eat it, it's better off a Traeger. It's convenient for my family of 4 but I can feed many more. my only suggestion would be to increase the size of the pellet box.

Might as well take up smoking
I've put it off long enough. Over forty six years to be exact. Years and years of people trying to tell me smoking was bad for me. I got tired of listening to others and had to find out for myself. I finally broke down and bought a Traeger Tailgater a few weeks back and started smoking (and grilling as well)! I love smoking!!! Smoked salmon, smoked turkey, grilled burgers, grilled squash,...etc. etc.! It's all delicious!!! I truly enjoy cooking on my Traeger. The portability of the Tailgater makes it awesome for camping. It was easy to assemble. It is easy to use and maintain. Hands down the best and most versatile grill I've ever owned.

Q. Does the Tailgater have a hopper cleanout so I can change pellets?
Deano
San Ramon, California
A. This particular grill does not have a hopper clean out. To remove pellets from the hopper, use a cup or bowl until you reach the auger and then fill the hopper with desired flavor.
