Traeger Sweet Potato Chips With Sea Salt

Traeger Sweet Potato Chips

Salty? Check. Crispy? Check. Outrageously Addictive? Double Check. We've concocted a sweet potato chip snack that will have you rethinking your standard burger pairings. Move over french fries!


PREP TIME: 15 minutes
COOK TIME: 8 minutes per batch


2 large sweet potatoes
3 tablespoons olive oil
Sea salt


Start by scrubbing and washing the sweet potatoes. If you want to you can peel the potatoes or leave the peel on for a little added crunch and color.

Slice the sweet potatoes into thin slices. The thinner they are, the quicker they will cook. The easiest way to get the super thin slices that are ideal for sweet potato chips is to use a mandolin slicer. (see below) You get a consistent width and it makes it quick and easy work of something that otherwise is quite tedious.

Toss the sweet potato slices in the olive oil.

Start the Traeger on Smoke with the lid open until the fire is established (4 to 5 minutes). Put the grilling basket on the grill grate and close the lid and preheat to High heat for 10 to 15 minutes.

Arrange the sweet potatoes in the grilling basket or on the grill grate in a single layer. Now is the easiest time to season them with a sprinkle of sea salt and get even coverage. (Be careful not to over-season the chips.)

Let the chips cook for 5 minutes on the first side and then flip and cook an additional 3 to 5 minutes on the other side. Lightly season the second side with sea salt. (The cooking time will vary depending on how thin you slice the sweet potatoes.)

Move the hot chips to a paper towel to cool slightly and absorb any residual oil.

Finish the chips with a light sprinkle of kosher salt and grab a chip while they're still warm.
