What's this?

Apple pie like never before. This buttery spiced filling is loaded with apples, cranberries and citrus zest, topped with a homemade crust and baked in deep dish over pecan.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 Cup flour

  • 1 Tablespoon sugar

  • 1 Teaspoon salt

  • 1 Cup butter

  • 7 Tablespoon ice water

  • 10 Apples, peeled, cored & sliced

  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon

  • 1 Teaspoon ginger

  • 1 Whole orange zest

  • 1/2 lemons, juiced

  • 1/3 Cup brown sugar

  • 1/3 Cup flour

  • 2 Tablespoon butter

  • 1/3 Cup Cranberries, fresh

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar, raw

Steps

  • 1

To make the pie dough, In the bowl of a food processor combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Pulse to combine.
  • 2

With the machine running, drop in little pieces of cold butter until all butter is added and mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Add cold water 1 Tbsp at a time until dough comes together. You may not need all the water.
  • 3

Turn dough out onto a floured surface and roll into 2 big rounds large enough to cover the pie dish with an overhang of at least 1-inch. Place into the pie dish and prick the bottom with a fork.
  • 4

When ready to cook, set the Traeger to 350℉ and preheat, lid closed for 15 minutes.
  • 5

For the Pie Filling: In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, cinnamon, ginger, orange zest, lemon juice, brown sugar, flour, and butter. Toss to coat well and transfer to a baking sheet.
  • 6

Place baking sheet in the grill and cook for 10-15 minutes, just until the apples release their juices.
  • 7

Remove apples from the grill, combine with cranberries and place into the prepared pan reserving the juices.
  • 8

Place the other pie dough on top of the apples, crimp the edges, cut slits into the top to vent, brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.
  • 9

Place directly on the grill grate and cook for 40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  • 10

Let cool before slicing. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Enjoy!
