What's this?

Smoked hamburger is stirred into a rich, flavorful tomato sauce on the grill. You’ll never think of the lunch lady again after devouring these Traegered Sloppy Joes.

Ingredients

  • 2 ground beef

  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 Carrot, peeled and diced

  • 1 Medium onion, chopped

  • 1 red bell pepper, diced

  • 2 Clove garlic, minced

  • 1/4 Teaspoon ancho chile powder

  • 1/4 Teaspoon Chipotle Chili Powder

  • To Taste salt and pepper

  • 1/2 Cup Traeger Texas Spicy BBQ Sauce

  • 1/2 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 5 hamburger buns

Steps

  • 1

When ready to cook, set grill temperature to 180℉ and preheat, lid closed for 15 minutes.
  • 2

Make 1/2” thick hamburger patties from the meat and put on the grill. Cook for about 30 minutes. This will add a smoky flavor, but not cook them all the way through. Remove from grill and set aside.
  • 3

  • 4

Add oil to pan along with the onion, carrot and bell pepper. When the onions are translucent add the garlic, ancho powder, chipotle powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir and cook for 5 minutes.
  • 5

Add the barbecue sauce and Worcestershire and let it thicken.
  • 6

Add the smoked meat, close the lid and cook for about 15 minutes. You want to just cook the meat through and coat it with sauce.
  • 7

When it is the right thickness, check the taste and adjust any of the ingredients to your preference.
  • 8

Toast the buns on grill if desired for 1 minute. Spoon the mixture onto the buns and serve with your favorite sides. Enjoy!
