Traeger XL
I have had my XL for 3 years and have cooked 3 full pigs (70 lbs) on it. I have made 10 racks of ribs at one time and a to of pork butts. It is a awesome smoker and have never had a problem with it. If you like to cook full pigs or a ton of meat at once this is your smoker...Only thing, you guys need to make a cover for the big boy.
Traeger Rocks!!

XL Treager
I purchased my XL Treager Smoker 9 years ago. It hasn't given me any trouble at all. I really like the way it cooks the meats evenly and with a deep smoke flavor. It's easy to use, I simply prepare the meat with a tasty rub and turn it on, place the meat on and set a timer.
I use a stand up type Rib rack for the baby back ribs and 5-6 hours later they are fall of the bone ready. Never dry or greasy and always a favorite of my hungry family. Thanks Treager for adding quality to our lives!

Q. I am looking at buying the TRAEGER XL GRILL how does the XL Grill electronics compare to the Timberline WiFire Controller electronics. Are they better than the one that comes in the TRAEGER XL GRILL and if so can I get it installed at the factory when I purse my grill? Can I also have the factory install and wire up another RTD Probe to my XL Grill before shipping it to me? I am going to build an out door kitchen so I will not need the legs or stand for my XL Grill so can I get it without the stand and will there be a reduction in the price? Reading some of your review have you designed a cover for the XL Grills handle or redesigned the handle so you do not burn your hand on the handle when opening?

A. The XL grills ship with one Pro controller, That controller is older than the new WiFire controller. The WiFire controller is not compatible with the XL grill. We do not offer any custom installs. It's not possible to add another RTD without adding another controller. The grill ships with the legs, you would just not install them. The handle on the XL should not be warm to the touch.

Q. It appears that this smoker comes off the cart based on the photos. Is it possible to use this smoker as a "built in" option?

Q. I have the Traeger XL and I love it but it uses a lot of pellets when cooking smaller meats. Is it possible to add another controller / thermostat and only use one side of the grill?

A. Hey Jeff, I am glad to hear you are enjoying your grill! While we do not recommend doing so, it is possible to install a second controller on that particular unit. To do so, you will need to make a new hole for the second controller on the front panel where the controller is now. Install another RTD probe on the right side of the barrel. After that remove the wiring harness which splits the connections from original controller into the 2 sets of motors, fans and hot rods. Reconnect the new controller to the auger motor, hot rod, induction fan which is located on the right side and then connect old controller to the parts on the left side. If you have any questions about this please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly here - sschorr@traegergrills.com

Q. Are you going to make any more of the XLs? They seem to have been out of stock for a little while. Also, how big of a hog can you cook on it? I love my small Traeger and been smoking on it for almost 7 years. But, I think I am ready to step into something bigger.

A. Yes early August will have them back in stock!

Q. If I am cooking a small amount of meat on one side of the grill, can I leave the other hopper empty, knowing the auger and firebox will run without pellets ? Will it do any damage ?

A. Your grill will not heat accurately without pellets in both hoppers.
