Why won’t my grill light?

If your grill is not lighting it can be caused by one or more of the following:
  • The Hotrod is not heating up
  • The Induction Fan is not running
  • No pellets are being fed to the firepot

  • Please give our customer service department a call so we can help troubleshoot the issue.

Why is my grill running so hot on smoke?

The smoke temperature can be affected by the outside weather due to the timed cycle it uses and will run hotter or cooler with hotter and cooler weather conditions. Generally, if the grill is running hot on the smoke setting it is because the lid was not left open long enough when the grill was started. We generally recommend leaving the lid open for at least 10 minutes when firing up the grill to allow the startup fuel to burn off before shutting the lid.

Why isn’t my grill getting hot enough?

If your grill is not getting above 400°F on the High setting, it can be caused by a few different things: :

  • Off-brand pellets, old pellets, or pellets that have pulled in some moisture will not burn as hot (most common cause)
  • Poor airflow in the grill, which can be caused by too much ash buildup in the firepot, rusted holes in the firepot, a tightened chimney cap, a weak induction fan, or the RTD temperature probe inside the grill is dirty or leaning towards the body of the grill.

  • Please give our customer service department a call so we can help troubleshoot the issue.

How long can I leave the grill unattended?

This will depend on the grill model. You want to try and keep the pellet hopper at least half full at all times. Our grills use about 1 lb. per hour on Smoke and up to 3 lbs. per hour on higher temperatures. The larger model grills hold 18 lbs. in the hopper when full and the Junior model holds about 8 lbs. when full.

How large should temperature swings be?

You will see temperature swings of about 20 degrees under normal conditions.

How should I store my pellets?

Store pellets indoors in the original bags. Place the bags in a sealed container to help prevent humidity from affecting the pellets.

What are your pellets made from?

Our pellets are made from 100% pure, food-grade hardwood.

Why does my grill go out on smoke?

If your grill goes out on smoke, it may be caused by the following:

  • Pellets in the hopper are getting too low and tunneling out (most common cause)
  • High wind conditions
  • Poor airflow in the grill
  • The pause timing for the auger cycle is too long for the current weather conditions.

  • Please give our customer service department a call so we can help troubleshoot the issue.

    Why doesn’t my auger move?

If your auger is not turning it can be caused by the following:

  • Jammed auger (usually caused by moisture in the pellets)
  • A broken shear pin that holds the auger motor to the auger
  • A broken gear in the auger motor
  • The auger motor is not getting power from the controller to the red wires

  • Please give our customer service department a call se we can help troubleshoot the issue.

Why isn’t my fan turning on?

If your Induction Fan is not running it can be caused by one of the following:

  • No power from the controller to the orange wires
  • The grease on the shaft of the fan is seized due to lack of use (you can usually spin the fan a few times to loosen it)
  • There is a wire or other obstruction keeping the fan from being able to spin.

  • Please give our customer service department a call so we can help troubleshoot the issue.

How do I remove an auger jam?

To clear an auger jam you would do the following:

  • Remove the outer shell of the pellet hopper by removing the 4 Phillips head screws and sliding the hopper shell off the end of the grill.
  • Remove the 5/16th nut from the shear pin that holds the auger motor onto the auger shaft.
  • Remove the flat head screw that holds the white plastic bushing in place.
  • Use a 12-inch pipe wrench and lock it onto the end of the auger shaft
  • Rotate the auger counterclockwise until the auger comes completely out of the tube.
  • Once the auger is removed, clean out any jam that may be left inside the auger tube.
  • Replace the auger, assembling in reverse order.
