SMOKE Setting on AC Grills

What is the SMOKE setting on an AC grill, and how does it differ from simply "smoking" your food?

SMOKE Setting Temperature

The SMOKE setting is specific to AC (non-WiFIRE-enabled) grills, and sets the grill to 160º F.

  • While the SMOKE setting sets the temperature to 160º F, there will always be some temperature variance. The temperature may fluctuate between 160º F and 180º F

Smoking Food

Smoking is the process of flavoring, cooking, or preserving food by exposing it to smoke from burning material -- in Traeger's case, wood pellets.

Ideal Smoking Temperatures

Technically speaking, no matter what temperature you set your grill, you will always be smoking your food, as this is how Traeger grills produces heat and cook food. That said, setting your grill between 160º and 225º F will produce the largest amount of smoke, and is thus where we traditionally consider food smoked.
